WAYS TO GET TO HARBOUR ISLAND (Rev. 01/05) .Compliments of Dunmore Cottage ..
Harbour Island is served by the airport at North Eleuthera, Bahamas (Code
ELH) which is two miles away. The only direct, non-stop "Gateway"
cities to North Eleuthera are Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Nassau. Nassau also
offers daily access via high speed ferry-boat service. Thus, make your way
to any of those three cities, and the following are your choices: (All
airline phone numbers are listed below.)
FROM FT. LAUDERDALE AND MIAMI:
Using Beech 1900 (2 pilot / 20 passenger) aircraft, Continental Connection
operates two flights to ELH from Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) daily. They also fly
1 to 2 flights to ELH (same aircraft) daily from Miami. In high or low season
the number and frequencies of Continentals flights may vary up or down.
Continental code-shares with United. The flights are operated for Continental
Connection by Gulfstream Airlines. Air-time from MIA or FLL to ELH is approx.
1 hour. USAir has canceled their direct service to ELH from MIA. USAir
now code-shares with Bahamas Air -- but all service is through Nassau -- and
the resulting USAir schedule is virtually impossible.
Commuter airlines: There are presently 2 of these, both from Fort Lauderdale only. The most familiar is Twin Air with daily service EXCEPT Wednesday on an 8 passenger (single-pilot) Navaho. While their planes are not large, Twin Air gets remarks for their reliability. With enough passengers, chartering your own Twin Air flight may be feasible and worth looking into. The other daily commuter from FLL is Island Express.
FROM NASSAU:
Nassau has direct service from nearly all major US east coast cities, as well
as daily non-stop service from many European ones, including London, Paris,
Frankfurt & Milan. Arrive into Nassau via any airline; from there choose
between two commuter airlines or a fast boat to complete the 45 mile (20 minute)
trip to North Eleuthera: Bahamas Air (code-sharing with US Air) operates 2
daily flights early morning and mid-afternoon. Southern Air operates 3 daily,
approx. same times with an additional one mid-day. Again, with enough passengers,
chartering your own flight from Nassau can be feasible and worth looking into.
If you'd rather go by boat, (requires spending the night) you can ride the
Bahamas Fast Ferry 177 passenger ship which departs Nassau harbour mid-town
(between the bridges to Paradise Island) for a 2 _ hour ride to Harbour Island.
Daily departures are promptly at 8:00 am. One round trip daily, two on Friday:
www.bahamasferries.com.
Private planes & charters: North Eleuthera is a Port of Entry. Its 6500
runway can accommodate up to the largest business jet. (MYEH) Coordinates:
N25-28.5; W076-41.1. Elevation: 5. Runways: 7-25 6,000 2 100 asphalt. Approaches:

CUSTOMS INFO: If arriving or departing via Nassau, both countries customs
stations are cleared coming and going-- in Nassau. If embarking from
Ft. Lauderdale or Miami you clear at ELH entering, FLL or MIA returning.
