WAYS TO GET TO HARBOUR ISLAND
Harbour Island
is served by the airport at North Eleuthera, Bahamas (Code ELH) which
is two miles away. The only two direct, non-stop "Gateway"
cities from the U.S. to North Eleuthera are Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Additionally, there is frequent direct air service from Nassau, as well
as high speed ferry service. Thus, make your way to any of those three cities,
and the following are your choices:
FROM MIAMI AND FT. LAUDERDALE:
USAirways
operates a mid-day flight on a 38 passenger Dash-8 seven days weekly from Miami
only. This service stops first at Governor's Harbour, (GHB) to clear customs,
then completes the 10 minute flight to North Eleuthera. Air-time from MIA or
FLL to ELH is approx. 1 hour, 10 minutes.
Bahamas Air has 5 daily flights from Miami to Nassau, but only the 11:40am will connect through with their afternoon flight to ELH. It has 3 Ft. Lauderdale daily departures to Nassau, but only the 10:15am will connect through to ELH.
Continental Airlines,
operating as Gulfstream Airlines operates daily non-stop service
to N. Eleuthera on 22 passenger Beech 1900 aircraft, (2 pilots). Almost always
departing from FLL where Gulfstream has a base, depending upon season and demand,
they might also add a MIA departure.
Commuter airlines: There are presently 2 of these, both from Fort Lauderdale
only. The most familiar is Twin Air with daily service EXCEPT Wednesday. The
other is Island Express with one flight daily.
FROM NASSAU:
Directly into Nassau
via any airline, and you can choose between two airlines or a fast boat to complete
the 45 mile trip to North Eleuthera. Bahamas Air operates 2 daily flights
early am and mid-afternoon. Southern Air operates 3 daily, with one at
noon. If you'd rather go by boat, (requires spending the night) you can
ride the Bahamas FastFerries 177 passenger ship which departs Nassau
harbour mid-town (between the bridges to Paradise Island) for a 2 hr.15 minute
ride to Harbour Island. Daily departures are promptly at 8:00 am. One round
trip daily, except two on Friday: www.bahamasferries.com.
From Europe: Nassau has direct service from London, Paris, Frankfurt
& Milan. Delta flies daily from Paris via Atlanta. Continental & Delta
go daily to Nassau from LaGuardia & Newark. Also, Paradise Island Express
flies from Newark & Houston to Nassau. Check your airline for availability
of direct service to Nassau.
