Introduction

Undoubtedly one of the most charming and impressive homes in Dunmore Town is Dunmore Cottage.

In President Clinton’s note of thanks to former Bahamian Prime Minister Ingraham for the painting of Dunmore Cottage seen below, he says:

"…Thank you for the painting of the Bahamian house (which) conveys the warm spirit of the Bahamas. I appreciate being remembered with such a special gift…"

This painting is now in the White House collection

Distinguished by its prominent location mid town on Bay Street overlooking the harbor, historic Dunmore Cottage is truly a treasure of Harbour Island and of the Bahamas.

Renovations

This nineteenth century native house was recently renovated in a painstaking fashion that kept the original ambiance while essentially re-building the house. It is one of the few completely modernized period houses on the island.

Dunmore Cottage features a large kitchen, living room, and dining room seating 10. The furnishings and decor maintain a certain sophisticated elegance without losing the charm of a native island residence – thus the cottage’s great appeal to visitors from Europe and the States; and to photographers everywhere.
